Bridging the world through the ritual of mate.
THE ROUND — September 2025
A monthly circle of stories, rituals, and reflections from the world of mate.
Mate Tip of the Month
Clean your bombilla
We rinse the gourd, but the inside of the bombilla is where most of the bitterness hides. Yerba dust and oils build up, clogging the filter and dulling the flavor.
- Rinse with hot water after every round.
- Once a week, run a thin brush through the tube to clear the buildup.
- For a deep clean, soak in warm water with a touch of baking soda or vinegar.

Nova Onda: Brazil’s New Wave of Yerba
In Brazil, a younger generation of producers is pushing mate in new directions. Called the nova onda (new wave), it’s about fresher blends, creative branding, and reaching new audiences.
One example is Matte N’ Roll, an artisanal line from Paraná that names each blend after a music genre. With options like Folk and Jazz, it shows how Brazil’s mate scene is evolving beyond tradition and connecting with today’s culture.
